LVS... setting the Industry Standards in Semen Technology

Until now the industry has relied on semen motility evaluation to determine if semen is good. This is a good beginning, but does not monitor any damage to the sperm cell membranes. Membranes around the head of the sperm can be damaged during processing or a boar can have poor quality sperm membranes and still have acceptable motility. We are now using a revolutionary new technique that employs a dual radioactive dye that actually determines whether or not the sperm cells in a given collection have intact membranes and are, in fact alive or dead. Once the sperm cells are incubated in this dye they are looked at using special fluorescent microscopic technique. This requires a special microscope that costs over $10,000. This is a large investment considering that much of the semen in the industry is produced with “kitchen sink” technology. That’s fine if luck holds out and no problems arise. We don’t think that your breeding season should be left to chance. We feel you should EXPECT the best quality when you purchase semen, not hope for it. To sum it all up — we can now GUARANTEE that every dose that leaves us has a minimum of 90% live sperm cells. That is a guarantee that only LVS can make.
